Not all that similar. What it does is suck in the air in front of the capsule and exhausts it down to create an air bearing and behind. It uses a linear induction motor to move. The reduced air pressure in front means less air friction.

Yeah, short hops would be the way to go at first. A Beaumont to Houston or Galveston to Houston might be better.
