I read another article somewhere along these lines which said Oracle is amidst a difficult product transition. Early adopters of Oracle6 got burned, so nobody wants to be the one to debug Oracle7.

I thought IBM was already a close #2 in the dbase market, only a few share points behind ORCL? Dataquest said as much in articles appearing last week analyzing Oracle's tank job.
