You've cracked one tiny element in a very huge field.

What is not known is orders of magnitude greater than what is known. In that sense, the base of knowledge is still minuscule.

And even when there is some awareness of disorders, treatment and cure can be a long way away. There is an awareness of what the frontal cortex "controls", for example, but no one is close to knowing HOW it does what it does or how the midbrain is able to super-prioritize life-and-death situations. Or what goes wrong with that process to cause drug addiction. No one has more than a clue what causes ASDs although there is a ton of speculation.

I'm not knocking the progress but it is worth keeping it in perspective. Figuring out how to transmit light to the brain is a far cry from understanding the brain.
