I didn't notice a change because I ignore the ignore function.

I do not see a positive in employing the ignore function. I am not forced to read the posts of people who have nothing substantial to contribute or who just post invectives to me. No one actually fits that definition btw. I get some sneering comments, there are the lunies like Shepard who actually has a point sometimes (beneath the nutty chatter), and there are extremists who are not posting anything more than "I/we hate others...repeat repeat repeat." People even like to submit posts declaring who they have on ignore, little kids do that too ... "I'm ignoring you... heyyyy I'm ignoring you, darn it pay attention I'm ignoring you"

Since I am not forced to read anything I don't want to, I see no point in taking this action (ignore). Some people have me on ignore who I haven't ever posted to since the "cleansing" and for years prior. Some people have me on ignore who I rarely post to but when I do they respond. So what's the point. A couple of people have posted that it is like creating an voting list for who is unpopular ... that isn't positive, it is juvenile and negative.

The positive with ignoring the ignore function is that I am able to keep abreast of the thread climate and culture, without which I might not get the gist of a particular topical strand of discussion. And without that I risk becoming ignorant of the train of thought in a given discussion. If I get my feelings hurt to much I probably should just stop attending for a while anyway. So, it looks to me like we would all be better off without that function.
