Many whites in America believe that inner city African-Americans are kind of primitive, and that they need a show of force to be kept in line. So they'd figure that the more force they apply, the better the African-Americans will behave. But in this example, they didn't loot any stores until the police cracked down hard on peaceful protesting, and as soon as someone new took charge of the policing and treated them with respect, tensions eased.
When I talk dysfunction, I mean the break down of the family..........where alcohol and drug addiction is rampant; where parents are not doing their jobs, where the kids are given little guidance and oversight; where a parent....usually the father......abandons the family. Not a great example.........but a thing among male teens these days is to pour a flammable liquid on themselves and then light it. A recent video of one that went viral was a black teen. It turns out his mother made the video while he lit himself. I think a lot of poor black kids grow up not knowing what normal is. They don't know how to interact within their families, or with people outside their families. I think its the lack of a solid family life that causes black teens to turn to gangs.........the gangs become another kind of family. Its fucked up.

You answered your own question... racism is exercised greatest against blacks than other groups. That racism is older and more deep-seated. This country, at least after the 17th century, never enslaved anyone other than blacks. Minstrel shows lampooning blacks were waaaaay more widely done than anything lampooning other races. Probably no ethnic epithet hits harder than "n*****r." There certainly is racism against other minorities, but it doesn't compare.
I answered my own question but you in turn have given evidence of my position.........its the history of all that racism that has held the black race back in this country. I believe a psychic price was paid every time a black person was held back, beaten back, discriminated against, prevented from leaving the ghetto. Over time that psychic price becomes a tab that accumulates and accumulates, and does damage. We see families where alcoholism and drug addiction are passed down from generation to generation. Why can't the psychic toll of slavery, discrimination, and racism be passed down as well? |
