The speech was good. But I learned a long time ago that does not form the basis for supporting a candidate.

But anyone can write an idealistic and ideological speech. Turning it into political acts is horse of a different color. If you can't see the person has a background of accomplishment, inferring action based on the speech is folly.

And that, I believe, is the essence of Obama's failure. He was a great public speaker with no real ability to get things done that positively impact the lives of people.

It is a really tragic outcome for the country; but we may, collectively, learn from the experience. If an entire generation of 20s-30s grows up to realize that political speech is not the equivalent of getting things done, perhaps the Obama terms will be seen as something other than a total loss.
