8/15/14 Contest update
I was surprised how much I was affected by the tragic suicide of Robin Williams. Let’s hope, before too much time has passed, there’ll be far better therapeutic options for clinical depression as well as Parkinson’s disease, recently diagnosed in Williams.

Meanwhile, biotechs had a decent week. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 3.14% YTD (vs. up .21% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 16.27% YTD (vs. up 11.11% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.90% YTD (vs. up 4.65% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader, DEWDIL’s portfolio, got a nice boost from ACHN and is now up 49.30% YTD. DIEGO’s portfolio, up 38.56% YTD took back second place and DOUGH’s portfolio, up 37.16% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 27 of the 46 Contest portfolios were in the black, while just 14 of the 46 beat the booming NBI. The median Contest portfolio stock (NVAX) is down -9.38% YTD.
