>> That's harsh. She was busted for drunk driving; not murder.

My brother was murdered by a drunk driver (murdered, as in the man backed his truck over my brother's injured body in order that he could leave the scene; all of Mike's ribs were broken and and internal organs were destroyed in the process). It was the driver's first DWI, but testimony at trial was he had been driving that road home drunk for years. That night, he missed the turn and took a life.

I have to say that as a kid I drove intoxicated, sometimes severely, many times. At that time it wasn't as big a deal as it is now, legally, but we've evolved on the subject.

Today, it is a very serious crime, and a DA who commits that crime knows it. In my mind, for a public official to have done that -- particularly a DA -- ought to be instant grounds for dismissal. Period. And she clearly thought it was at the time of the arrest.

I don't know if Perry did the right thing or not, but in reflecting on it, he clearly felt strongly about it. For some nitwit to try to prosecute him for it is sheer politics. I hope MADD goes after the guy.
