James, I'm not a techie so I can't say much about your program v. memory problem. Probably the upgrade has outgrown your computer. (Similar to Windows/Intel issues on new software needing better hardware.)

Trimble is not really in the handheld market, like Magellan or Garmin, either because (1) they got edged out or (2) they decided it wasn't where the real money is. No matter whether the answer is (1) or (2), and it could be both, it turns out that the lower-end tech market, such as handhelds, has not been profitable for Trimble's competitors. Prices are low, access to the market is relatively easy, and profits are squeezed. Trimble is spending its time trying to be the software brains behind larger GPS-related products, like car navigation. Trimble concentrates on higher-end applications.

Take a look at the Trimble thread for a discussion of Magellan and Ashtech, which just merged to be able to compete with Trimble, and you can also ask some questions of the techies that hang out there. One of the thread contributors worked for Trimble before becoming a founder of Ashtech. He's since left them, also.

I don't want to monopolize this thread, so I'd ask anyone who wants a TRMB discussion to join in on the Trimble thread.
