Ted,
My God. Six times. What's the excuse this time...
Cops are trained to shoot that many times when lives are in danger.

Many years ago, after the Columbine massacre, I volunteered (along with about a hundred other "civilians") to be part of a police training exercise in a local elementary school. The exercise was meant to simulate a Columbine-like crisis for the officers. The officers carried hand weapons loaded with soap bullets.

I got to play the bad guy one time. I wore a helmet with a face shield (for my protection, of course) along with a heavy jacket. I simulated holding a poor guy hostage with a shotgun. When the police came around the corner and saw me, they opened fire and did not stop until I fell to the ground. Then they came over, secured the shotgun, and made sure I was "dead" before the referee blew the horn ending the training exercise.

I must have been hit a total of 15 times. One even in the nut sack, ouch. Served me right for "taking hostages," LOL.

Anyway, it was in the Pacific Northwest, so I'm sure there are other police training exercises just like that one which you can volunteer for and educate yourself on what police have to go through.
