BERLIN—Berlin police cordoned off a job center in the German capital on Tuesday to attend to a woman showing symptoms of an infectious disease, the emergency services said, less than a week after the foreign ministry urged Germans to leave several West African countries in the grip of an Ebola outbreak.

The fire department couldn't confirm what the woman's suspected infection is, according to spokesman Sven Gering.

More than 1,100 people have died from the Ebola outbreak across Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. German media have reported on suspected cases of Ebola in Frankfurt and Hamburg among travelers from African countries in recent weeks, but the patients tested negative for the deadly virus at local hospitals, according to the reports.

Germany's foreign ministry last week ordered German citizens to leave Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone due to the "critical situation" of the Ebola virus in West Africa.
