I don't know where you got that information but the question needing an answer is "how far from the officer was he?"

The officer then shot Mr. Brown multiple times, before he died about 35 feet away from the car, police said.

Now, how far he was from the officer is not clear. But if the events started at the patrol car and his body wound up 35 feet from it, that raises a lot of questions about Wilson's claims.
