But it had everything to do with it. The cop had confronted these two idiots walking down the middle of the street and told them to get on the sidewalk which they refused to do (this is what the "friend" of Brown says in the video -- that they told him they were almost to their destination, from which one can reasonably infer was given as a "reason" for not moving to the sidewalk). As the cop was driving off, the call came on the radio and Brown matched the description of the person committing the robbery, and he stopped the patrol car and that's when the encounter occurred. The officer was driving away until that call came on the radio, apparently.

That dispatcher traffic will have been recorded and will support the veracity of the story, I suspect (the cop knows it is recorded, so if he lied he knew he was certain to be caught lying). It is doubtful the dispatch would have given much information about the nature of the robbery, although it may have conveyed whether it was an "armed" robbery. Still, whether a weapon was used in the robbery wouldn't imply whether the guy had a weapon on him.

I think a fundamental difference in the views here is whether you give the officers the benefit of the doubt. I do, almost always. Some people will always give the criminal the benefit of the doubt in instances like this.
