Perhaps. But "overplay the race card" is an understatement. My constant harping against Ted's racist underpinning is that EVERYTHING is black this, white that, as though it were the most important consideration in every incident, whether it is crime, welfare, politics, health care, you-name-it.

This kind of hypersensitivity is more than annoyance. It is pathological and it is destructive.

The six-year old you mentioned will likely get over it. My daughter had very little exposure to racial diversity (the schools she went to had relatively few blacks), yet my son's closest friend from an early age was our next-door neighbor's son, who was black and they played together constantly. I see little difference between them as far their acceptance of diversity.

I think it is more of a generational thing, to be honest.
