I read an article, but didn't post it, about how kids today shouldn't even care about getting a degree, but should just learn to code in an in-demand computer language and get a great paying job. The employers don't care about degrees, they care about very specific abilities. I'm well aware of that and see it was one more problem in the way our culture configures itself, reproduces itself. Much of our public life suffers as a consequence of this attitude. Moreover, these are not, to repeat myself, zero sum matters. One can easily, and should, get a college education that provides a good start toward middle level employment with some mobility possibilities and get the spirit of a liberal education with the beginnings of a kind of curiosity, sense of moral connectedness, and critical thinking that enhances being human.
