The only realistic military solution is to push the population out.

Preferred solution for sure - but equally impossible at the moment. A DMZ can be quickly created but who would maintain it going forward and how aggressively would they combat violations. Just bombing for another month and then going home will not work either - something new must be tried. Really doubt Egypt would have much heartburn over losing pals/hamas as a neighbor.
Has been known to happen...
