My experience over decades is that applied ignorance is a bad idea. Genuflection to self-appointed so-called experts has also proven to be many many times a very bad idea, sometimes fatal. <Any person on SI who thinks they understand the science of GW is fooling themselves - unless they are trying to deceive. > I don't think I have fooled myself at all. Neither am I trying to deceive. I have a good understanding of the ideas and facts that make up the theories about Global Warming. You are welcome to correct me where wrong.

Unlike the Settled Scientists [who have now been proven to be wrong] I have always thought I'd wait and see what the actual evidence of reality demonstrated rather than go crazy on a wild goose chase which would cost a vast fortune.

We definitely do have an impact. <To think we can populate the world with this many and not have any impact is as far as I am concerned dreaming. Surely you can agree that MAYBE we have an impact. > But the impact is not what the GAists think. The big effect is chlorophyll activity improvement. Also irrigation requirement reduction. But underlying your concern is the idea that the world's climate is in stasis other than due to what people do. There is a false belief that there is stable equilibrium as expressed in the idea "Earth in the Balance". There is no balance and never was. Apart from long term variations such as glaciations and interglacials, there are shorter term instabilities which result from natural processes such as plant cover expanding and shrinking due to insects and animals feeding. Similar natural variations occur with some prey animal increasing in numbers, which results in predators increasing, which then results in collapse of the prey animal numbers which results in the death of the predators, which leads to increase again in the prey animals.

There are not many stable balanced things in nature. Instability and Malthusian carnage are the norm. The Global Alarmists think that nature is balanced when it is not. We are not disturbing a balanced environment. We are boosting CO2 which increases plant growth which increases the success of herbivores which improves the lot of predators, including people. There is a theory that the extra CO2 will raise air temperatures. That theory has been demonstrated by observation to be incorrect.

You are right that in the meantime you might as well do what makes sense for you economically. Buy less fuel and use more insulation. Move closer to work to reduce transport requirements. Use Cyberspace to do things instead of moving things in 3D such as a dirty great SUV to a mall. Couriers do a vastly more efficient job and will save you money.

There are not health issues with burning gasoline in cars. There were once upon a time. There are not now. Certainly not compared with the myriad toxins and dietary deficiencies people contaminate themselves with.

Why do you think they would want to do that? <.And one more thing; what do you think our world will look like when the Chinese and the rest of the world consume as much energy as we do?> As Sheik Yamani said long ago [3 decades ago], the stone age didn't end for lack of stones and the oil age won't end for lack of oil. The future won't be like the past. Imagine if all the Chinese had used horse shoes like they did in the wild west. But they didn't. Imagine how much copper China would need if everyone got a twisted pair phone line. But they won't. Imagine if all the Hindus start eating beef like Texans. But they won't. People are not simplistic things who want to copy Americans. There's more to life than dirty great SUVs and roaring up and down freeways.

There are enough actual problems without making up imaginary ones.

Even if the CO2 theory was correct and heating did result, it's by no means clear that we wouldn't go into reglaciation anyway because there might not be sufficient heating in the theoretical CO2 heating to overcome the reglaciating cooling. Once a feedback loop of more snow increasing reflection causing more cooling and extended dew point coverage and more snow and more reflection and more cooling and more snow over extended latitudes and even greater dew point coverage and more snow etc. is underway, it will probably do as before and result in large ice caps lasting for 100,000 years. Brrrr.... Bad news for Sweden and other countries which will look like Greenland with kilometres of ice on top.
