The protesters were from a Union which objects to Apple using contractors who don't belong to their union. It appears to concern wages and conditions for security officers who work at many San Francisco retail shops, not about wages or conditions for tech workers.

Where better to stage a union protest than at the Apple Store closest to Union Square?

Protesters with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) staged a sit-in for nearly an hour, according to SEIU organizer Jacob Hay.

The SEIU alleges that companies like Apple contract with firms that underpay service employees like security guards.

Hay told Business Insider that these firms also hire employees for part-time jobs to avoid paying them benefits.
