You make the typical argument and it's not without merit. But not everyone is willing to accept that anymore. The two black families I mentioned wouldn't listen to you for a minute. They are disgusted, angry and yet trapped by their skin color in a society in which vestiges of the old time racism still exists. In fact, blacks in general are divided on where responsibility for black woes lies. I read a recent Pew poll and will track it down for you. Like I said, I see a new kind of racism emerging around me but it is fractured into groups and sub-groups that cross all kinds of color lines. I suspect it will get worse, too, because we finally have an economy in this country which can't make room for all the people trying to participate.
