Fascinating comments, Kate. I don't hear anything like that, as you might guess, in my corners of NJ, the northeastern section. And most particularly in the groups I hang out with. My town votes about 80% Dem and I participate in a good many civic activities and have friends there. We have very good suburban schools. I've been on the local board of ed. The public education concerns are that the various charter schools will drain money away from public schools. So far hasn't happened here. Again, because the schools are quite good.

I grew up in Texas, went to college there, and left in 1959. But even then I had no serious reading of Arkansas. Only of the university football team because it was in the same conference, the Southwest, as the University of Texas at Austin.

Came back into view when Clinton ran for the presidency in 1992. Though there was always Fullbright and Pryor's father.
