To use an archaic phrase, I try to "puzzle out" the stunningly self-defeating behaviors in the AA community and the strange culture they have created that ensure failure for so many of their members, and my head wants to explode. I go in circles thinking about viable solutions and am always left with the same question: How can they not see how toxic their culture is? I believe it's that their exists such a hatred for white people that they will go downhill forever before adopting any of the behaviors that help white folk get their piece of the pie.

And yes, I know this is perhaps an overstatement and a simplistic answer, but I see it as the bottom line.

I love hearing the simple efforts you are making to make a difference. I have the same attitude. If an opportunity presents itself to assist even just one african american, I'll jump on it. Living in a university town, fortunately, there are endless small opportunites.
