Look, I know most of the Right would love to blow Putin, but he is playing a game where he can't see most of the pieces and seems to be ignoring anything outside of his narrow interests. The fact of the matter is that Russia cannot exist without the West. While it would be painful for Europe to cut off Russia, it would be fatal for Russia.

Say he forges a route to Crimea. Next would be to do the same to Transnistria. Now just annexing Crimea spooked the EU. Partitioning Ukraine by driving those corridors will send them over the edge. Especially if Putin threatens to use nuclear weapons.

Every step that Russia takes towards these goals risks bringing NATO down on them like a ton of bricks. It also risks sending the Russian people into revolt. Especially if NATO gets involved. Now, if you have been following the news outside of the WingNut Echo Chamber, you would know that the Russians have been putting into place measures to deal with domestic unrest. But it isn't clear that they could suppress an open revolt.

The taking of Crimea was popular in Russia. The rest, it depends. If he can pull it off quickly and painlessly, then that will be popular too. However, that is unlikely.

You need to remember that Sharpton-Lite has the advice of some of the best military minds in the world. And is working together with the EU leaders with close to the same resources.

Unlike Commander Codpiece.
