I've been doing some back reading of the forum this morning. As a result, I'm something beyond puzzled as to how a police killing of an unarmed young black male could move into a discussion of "thugism" in the black community and onward to the debilitating limitations of black culture. For me that's a classic trajectory of blaming the victim. Rather than serious discussions, of which this group is quite capable, of what are proper limits on the police, how the country goes about holding police accountable, how to slow the present militarization of the police, what federal authorities can do as opposed to state and local authorities, comparisons with other killings of unarmed black males, comparisons with experiences such as Eric Holder and other black males have recounted, and so on this forum moved to "thugism" and black culture.

Those topics are interesting topics. No question. Lots of pros and cons. But changing the frame from problems with local policing to characteristics of the black community is quite strange. At best.
