Apple reportedly reaches agreement with Visa and American Express for iPhone mobile payment system

An area that has been expected to be ripe for disruption by mobile devices are payment systems. The revenue implications begin to be defined by the potential for transaction fees on the multi-trillion dollar non-cash payment delivery framework but, in Apple's case, will have additional value by broadening and deepening its ecosystem of hardware and services.

The primary bar for successful execution has been security. With it, comes buy-in by all of the major credit card companies. Apple's disruptive history, mobile device share among the wealthiest segment of the global economy, ready database of credit card wielding iTunes customers (800 million and counting) and unrivaled deep pockets make it a favorite for succeeding in the mobile payments space.
