Oz indeed is intense. It's far more compelling than OITNB, which is too cute to be believable as a prison drama. I believe Oz was the first extended drama on a premium channel, preceding both 6' Under and The Soprano's. It brought us the actor who plays Schillinger who later became renowned for playing Juno's dad and numerous other roles, and also the guy who later became the actor on those insurance commercials where he played the guy who loved chaos. He was also poor Liz Lemon's boyfriend on 30 Rock for a while.
