Apple: Stifel, RBC Upbeat on Prospects for Mobile Payments Debut Ahead of Apple’s (AAPL) media event next Tuesday, September 9th, the Street is somewhat pre-occupied with the notion that new iPhones unveiled will include a mobile payments, or mobile wallet function.
Last Friday brought a piece from The Financial Times stating NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) will provide a near-field communications, or NFC, chip that will be used by the phone to provide contactless payments.
Over the weekend came a piece from Matt Townsend of Bloomberg stating that Apple is working with Visa (V) and Mastercard (MA) and American Express (AXP) on the wallet function, citing a single unnamed source.
The response today from folks who actually cover the credit card processors and the rest of payments are fairly optimistic about Apple’s prospects.
