If all of that happens, they'll be on a good path. NFC would be great and is already available a lot of places. Partnering with all those major players will be key. And offering a loyalty rewards program, as long as it is as valuable (or more valuable) than what you can currently earn with category-based bonuses and transferable points/miles, would be key too. If, however, they falter on one or more of these points, then I don't see how it would beat out what's already out there. Today you can already use NFC and earn rewards with ease. very securely. Apple wouldn't have a monopoly on this - they'd just be entering the game alongside others. I don't see how they'd make money from it, but it would make their hardware more useful, as the iPhone currently lacks NFC-enabled payments. Interesting stuff!
