It's possible that Obama was already pursuing a strategy like that. But his gaffe last week told me otherwise, and his post-gaffe spin doctors are only confirming what I suspected all along. Obama really doesn't have a strategy, long-term or otherwise, in dealing with ISIL and other potential threats to Americans.
If Obama had been sitting around playing checkers while ISIS went after every non Sunni in Iraq, you might have an argument. However, what he has done is checked ISIS's advances while he mulls what to do with Syria. Once again there is no justification for your outrage.
And it's bad enough that he doesn't have a strategy, but it's even worse when he outright admits it. Now he placed America into a position where we can no longer convey strength of conviction.
In the last few weeks Obama has stepped back and let the EU, specifically Merkel, carry the ball when it comes to the Ukraine mess. However, when Putin wants the issue addressed, who does he call out........that's right......Obama. Obama is the most important leader in the world, and the rest of the world knows it.
While the right in this country complain that Obama's foreign policy doesn't have enough muscle, the world outside of the US and the right registers very different complaints.........that his FP has too much muscle. Drones in Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia. Airstrikes in Libya and Iraq. Warships in the Black Sea.
Obama is a far more aggressive a president than I expected him to be............and he's taken a lot of flack from his supporters for it. |
