| | | Everything is relative.
The "correct" way to handle discontent is with thoughtful discourse, mediation, and a resolution that appeases the major issues from both sides.
Dmitry's "screw you and your opinions" attitude started a lot of this long before I got involved in the discussion. I only got involved because I saw that attitude and saw what it was doing to the SI that I knew and "loved".
I'm sure his intentions were good, to begin with. Everybody wants to do a good job. However, I don't think he had the skill set and the experience to pull it off. Technical skills, maybe. Social/business skills .. No.
He didn't welcome constructive (and negative) feedback from the user base ... the people who have been using the system since day one. That was his first mistake. The discontent grew and gained a wider audience.
Now he's so deep into it that there's no way for him to get out ... except to admit he was, and is, wrong. That's unlikely to happen, because it would likely set a precedent for similar situations in the future that he's unwilling to deal with. The whole mess could have been avoided if he had just paid heed to the voices that actually cared about SI.
He created the environment, and now he has to live with what he created.
The performance sux bigtime, the dropdowns suck, the implementation of the logos *continues* to suck. Those are FACTS, as can be verified by the overall sentiment. How could ANY businessman have let things get this bad without stepping in to correct whatever it was that was causing so many failures?
Recent bans only increased the discontent.
When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say. George R.R. Martin
Knight Sac Media could ameliorate this situation by simply saying ... "OK, we screwed up. Let's back up a bit and do things differently next time".
Considering there are "Limited Development Resources" (Dmitry's term), it won't cost much in the salary department relative to the good will that would be garnered.
If they do a "re-boot", I sure hope they eagerly take advice/suggestions from the users who made the SI community what it was in the past.
Emphasis on the word "community"
Sure is a pretty day.
