1923 Sears Roebuck Kit House in Venice Asking $2.5 Million

17 images

Between 1908 and 1940, the Chicago-based mail-order firm of Sears, Roebuck & Co. sold approximately 75,000 prefabricated kit homes in a wide variety of styles and sizes, one of which has just hit the market. Located two blocks east of California Boulevard in Venice, the residence in question is a 1923 model—we're guessing it's the Silverdale, a seven-room house with wraparound porch, traditional Colonial style columns, and simple band trim that originally retailed for $2,247. Per the listing, the 2,330-square-foot house has been "completely rehabbed" and features three bedrooms, two baths (one with clawfoot tub), hardwood floors throughout, beamed ceilings, French doors, a period kitchen with "breakfast nook, custom cabinets, vintage stove and retro Sub-Zero," two wood-burning fireplaces, and four sitting porches. Sited on a 4,274-square-foot lot, it's asking $2.495 million.
