Lets see? Imagine dragging your foot behind you, leaning way front, stretching tendons on the top of your foot as the toes drag, top down, along the ground. Now think much much much more gentle.

You just want to give a little, very little stretch to the tendons on the top of your foot. They are very critical to the "push off" in running or power walking, not so much for vigorous walking which is much more heel pull (bottom foot) than foot push (top foot).
