>> If its true we can't afford these programs [and frankly, that's open to conjecture], then its because we spend too much on defense and the rich are not paying their fair share.
Typical liberal gross misunderstanding of the budget. Which isn't surprising given it involves numbers. The abstract concept of arithmetic just baffles the hell out of all of you.
As I've pointed out time and again you could cut the defense budget to zero and our deficits would still be "unsustainable", according to CBO as well as Janet Yellen (and Bernanke before her). The reasons given are (a) Social Security, (b) Medicare, (c) Obamacare, and (d) interest on the debt. As you might notice, defense is not listed. And in fact, according to CBO, planned reductions in the rate of growth in defense spending make the budget MORE sustainable than it would have been:
"Discretionary spending. Spending on discretionary government functions will equal 6.8 percent of GDP, a decrease from 9.3 percent in 2014, and the 11.2 percent average of the past 40 years. In particular, defense spending will decrease from 3.4 percent of GDP in 2014 to 2.7 percent of GDP in 2024."
So, Defense isn't the problem and, along with other programs, actually IMPROVE the deficit situation over the projected time frame. It is the four items mentioned above that are killing us.
Great Society, New Deal, and Obamacare are killing the country and you guys are just too stupid to recognize it. Or perhaps to care. You got yours, fuck the future. Bentway got his Obamacare, he doesn't give a shit about future generations. |
