Step 1: Get a SubjectMarks listing. 47 seconds later, I finally gave up waiting and did a Refresh. Step 2: Get a SubjectMarks listing. 36 seconds later, I finally gave up and went to Google.com. Less than 1 second response. Step 3: Get a SubjectMarks listing. 17 seconds later, the clock finally stopped spinning. Step 4: Get a SubjectMarks listing. 6 seconds later, the clock stopped spinning.
The good news is that the length of time decreased dramatically.
The bad news is that I suspect (can almost guarantee) similar situations will happen again in the future.
Not to worry about insignificant performance issues, though, because the number of logos continues to grow.
Incidentally, logos are NOT required. There is a default "stripes" logo that continues to work fine on threads without *official* logos. Before the thread moderators select an *official" logo, they see a logo similar to the default logo, but it has the text "Click here to insert logo" overlaid on the graphic.
Which leads me to conclude that the much bally-hoo'd popularity of logos is VERY misleading. Because ... 1) it *appears* that a logo is required, but it's really not 2) some moderators will see the "instruction" text and go find a suitable logo. I wonder how much combined time moderators have spent finding a logo, uploading it, and testing it?
They *did* test it, right? I suspect *most* quality minded moderators would test their logo. Too bad that "test" mindset isn't shared among various other SI participants. You know, like admins.
