Most analysts do their own models while using company guidance in order to derive a full set of model financial stmts and understand the operating parameters of the company that impact the financials.

I think you're giving analysts a bit too much credit. I think most of them take the company's guidance, and pip it up or down a percent depending on their view of the company.
