I agree, I don't believe that such a complaint represents mainstream users, none of whom would ever think to be without their phone if they could help it.
There's a big distinction between having your iPhone most of the time (many users do) and having it with you *all* of the time. Especially with the newer models having bigger sizes only, it puts those who want to work out, do errands, etc. in the position of wearing a watch + carrying a big phone in their pocket, else lose functionality. I'm looking forward to the day when I can go for a run, not have to carry a phone at all (let alone one with a watch as well), and still be able to get texts and email alerts, track & upload my workout via GPS and mapping apps, etc.
