Alex, but that's exactly why I asked! To hear how others were introduced-or not. And if they found it helpful- or not.
THe boys have certainly had sips of champagne or wine. They both think beer tastes terrible. I wasn't allowed to drink at home, but I also for some reason never drank in college either. It didn't go with my image of myself, I guess. I think probably the use or abuse of alcohol in young people may be tied up more with their feelings about themselves, and the foundations already in place than it does with the specific stance of the parents on drinking.
Your parents were German? We were in a restuarant in Germany sitting next to a table with a young girl (11-12?) drinking a beer. I thought the boys would keel over in horror. They couldn't believe it. I think they half-expected the parents to be struck by lightning for allowing it or maybe they were hoping the little girl would dance on the table and pass out. But I know they thought something should have happened! Boring. They ate and left, and the little girl didn't even stagger.
