The nature of the errors that occur, when you allow idiots to do "science", and then value their opinions too highly, tends to become cumulative.

Easy enough to see, that if "global warming" is total bunk... then, all the "science" based on simply assuming all that crap they made up must be the gospel truth, when it isn't... makes the rest also bunk.

In the case of the coral studies... there's a lot of that happening.

Coral reefs are better at coping with rising sea temperatures than we thought

I know the headline is true from my own experience... the problem isn't with the reefs, but the "science".

The study result points out that experiencing greater natural variability within limits of tolerance, results in greater natural tolerance... go figure. It also points out that only two years of enhanced variation provides a population with improved tolerance.

So, yeah... really... the problem in Florida is probably 0.8 degrees of "global warming"... and not the local variations in the hundreds of other human caused stresses we know are being imposed on the reefs, there...

Note, too, though, the way the study above addresses the issue they identify... "It should be possible to use climate-resistant corals in transplant/restoration efforts in order to replant reefs with greater future resilience. This is one of the things we are doing this summer in a set of pilot projects in Samoa."

In other words... they're ignoring hundreds of thousands of years of evolution as a thing that probably doesn't matter... and whether it makes sense or not... we are now proceeding to treat the reefs just like the national forests... planting the species WE want... instead of simply managing what's there to not screw it up...
