But it doesn't have to. Science just "is". Fear is evolutionary. There's nothing inherently "wrong" with being driven by it- as long as you know you are. It's probably good to be conscious of your drivers. Just as it would be good for liberals to know they're being driven by a search for the new. There's nothing inherently "good" or "bad" about either of those things- but if you let them drive you, and worse still, if you don't even know you're being driven by your wiring, you can probably do some pretty stupid things- like invading countries that don't need to be invaded. Like fearing Muslims (a tiny fraction of your population) will somehow "take over". You seem to be basically arguing for ignorance, or ignoring science because you think it's going to be used incorrectly. You can say that about any science. It doesn't seem a particularly good rationale to me.
