Bentway,
My hope is that Obama will continue to use air power, drone strikes, satellite intel, etc., to "degrade" ISIS, so the Kurds, Iraqis, Assad and others in the region can reduce them to impotence.
Yes, that's the ideal outcome, one which minimizes our involvement and gets the powers in the Middle East to solve their own problems.

Only thing is that the ideal outcome requires a lot of variables to line up. Besides, like Ted point out, a lot of our "frenemies" are also supporting ISIS. Not everyone in the Middle East hates them.

"Leading from behind" is clearly a half-assed solution. In the end, you're hoping this problem just resolves itself without much help from America. Just like Obama is hoping for.

But who knows? Maybe it might work out that way. Politically it'd be the best outcome Obama can hope for and take credit for at the same time. Even though it's kind of a chickens--t thing to do, a "win" is a "win."

I personally would prefer action over wishful thinking, but then again, that's why I'm an engineer and not a politician.
