More taxes, more regulation, all to "redistribute wealth." Might as well just call it socialism. Because despite almost a century of it failing, we need to keep trying ...

Tenchusatsu, thanks for the articulate response! I have a friend who is a general contractor and does small to medium sized projects and employees about 15 full time and then supplements based on projects. He has done some renovation work for me, does a good job and will diligently work to correct any issues that crop up. He went through the meltdown and kept all of his staff on even though he made considerably less. He has never take off more than 1 week a year for vacation. He is also a lifelong democrat, but more moderate than most. We have some friendly debates.

Recently he told me than business had finally improved and he was looking at ways to expand. He said though that he was involved in audits / reviews by 3 different government agencies and that he and his assistant were spending the majority of their time getting paperwork, meeting etc. with these agencies. He said that it has been going on for months and most of his attention has been directed to satisfying these folks. Felt he was working for the government. My parting comment to him was "Dang, you are sounding like a conservative, I will convert you yet!"
