This is a valid point, that when the read or unread counts are low, the look can
be imbalanced.

Seriously, this is the point that I think you are missing. And the reason I think you are missing it is because you haven't been on SI long enough to have a few dozen subjectmarks that get little to no use. Yet, we keep them for many valid reasons. I still have Tim Luke's old thread marked (again, you may not even know who that is....which would explain a lot), even though it only gets a message once a year. But I want to keep it...along with several dozen other old threads that I don't want to lose track of even though nobody ever posts on them anymore. I am not alone in this. Talk to other members who have been here since the 90's and you will find that all of our screens look just like the one that you commented on above.

I know you think that we older users are just going to complain about ANY changes, but that's not true. We are complaining because the changes you make are disproportionately damaging to long-time members' USER EXPERIENCE.
