Regarding Adrian Peterson beating his kids. It turns my stomach even thinking about it. Whipping a four year old so hard he bleeds is child abuse any way you want to look at it. A four year old only needs lots of gentle loving.

Our society does not allow men to hit women. So why do we allow the hitting of children who are so much more vulnerable to trauma and would have to endure so much pain. It is barbaric. I hope they run Adrian Peterson right out of the NFL. If he was playing in a city near me I would picket him.

We do not allow anyone to hit anyone, but our society allows parents to beat their children. I have read research on this and it says the beatings are worse and more common than many know.

What is even worse are stepfathers and stepmothers. It seems many step parents have a reaction to kids born of another mate, jealousy, or whatever and often treat them badly. With men it often means senseless beatings. children need love not beatings. And they are not mutually exclusive.

I am sure Adrian Peterson was beating his kids because it satisfied something in him (a rage?), maybe even gave him pleasure, but certainly was not for the good of his child, or necessary. The child was 4 and the beatings had gone on when he was even younger. He had a whupping room and the kids were scared of him.

In Sweden it has been illegal to hit one's kids for a long time. I have always felt it should be illegal for anyone to hit kids.

When I was a teacher they tried to get me to swat kids and I refused. They had to bring in an arbitrator. Both the principle and vice principle tried to force me to hit the kids. I simply refused. Never did. I wasn't going to do it.
