Goodness. You've got to wonder what story that guy's children could tell. Seriously? Discipline "gets away from you"? In what universe does that happen? We make choices. When we decide to hit a child, that's the first choice (and a bad one, imo). Next comes the choice of how hard to hit, and with what (more bad choices possible here). And finally, there's the very bad choice of choosing to inflict so much damage on a child that it leaves marks. If you do THAT you are clearly an abuser- no matter how cool your friends think you are.
