freelyhovering : 'spankers' are always repeating unconsciously what was done to them and then rationalizing that it is good for the child. I am not making this up. It is scientific fact. If people don't accept gravity, they are lost and can cause great harm to themselves and their families. I'm just catching up here and I want to thank every one of you for the discussions this week. Love you guys. What's fascinating to me is how spankee's make meaning of their experiences. Some go on to repeat while some vow to never hit a child because they wouldn't want to inflict the pain they endured……during my active days most? all of us? who became child advocates to deal with this issue were spankee's or abused in some other sort of significant way---impelling us to deal with it on a broad scale. What is it that makes people derive such divergent meanings from these experiences? I don't have the answers to this but throwing this into the mix of this excellent discussion by y'all.
