From the New Feature Discussion thread almost exactly TWO YEARS AGO:

If/when the new version of SI (SI 2.0?) comes out, please provide a way for us oldtimers to continue using the current (Classic?) version.

Other forums have tried to "enhance" their user interface, with dismal results.

For instance, Yahoo added a "threaded" mode that shows a conversation consisting of an original post with responses to it, and with responses to the responses, and with responses to ... ad infinitum. All the responses were indented from the posts they replied to. Nice idea, but the implementation sucked. It made it almost impossible to read, which is the exact opposite of what they were trying to do. Sure, it was fun for the programmers, but it was a disaster for investors who tried to follow the conversations.

Gee, it almost sounds like I have had experience in such matters, and have encountered similar fiascos in the past.

Other senior techies here have similar experiences.

Too bad that accumulated experience isn't being utilized during the SI "modernization" phase.

Sure is a pretty day.
