Packard Bell NEC Dominates Home PC Market
Company Takes Lead in Retail Sales
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1997--Packard Bell NEC, already the world's top seller of personal computers into homes, regained its position as the number one manufacturer of PCs sold through retail, according to Audits & Survey's market research report for October 1997.
In October, Packard Bell NEC achieved a 31 percent market share, surpassing Compaq Computer Corporation [NYSE:CPQ - news], which slipped to 29 percent. For the months of August and September 1997, Packard Bell posted a 25 percent and 30 percent share of the retail market, respectively, while Compaq posted 36 percent and 33 percent.

Packard Bell The Top Brand Year-To-Date
Aggregate totals for January through October, 1997 show the company with a 30 percent share, five percentage points higher than Compaq, according to Audits & Surveys. Packard Bell has maintained its leadership position in the retail PC market throughout 1997 in year-to-date channel sales.
