The Classical Greek Way......And as a last comment, perhaps in Irving texas you find it easy to knee jerk away from the truth of these pagan roots, thats ok, you have wonderful tail~gate parties at each & every sunday gladitorial football contest to keep you distracted, go Cowboys & Texas U / City State!
But these games of competition couldn't be more Greek/Hellene in their origins, the old Hebrew philistines were not a very merry bunch when it came to participation in public sports events, in fact absolutely punishing anyone severely caught attempting or dreaming about this kind of wanton public display & activity.
In all serious consideration & truth, what we see really happening in history, one only has to point to the ease which the Classical stories & literature, those gods & muses, their art & philosophy was welcomed back with open arms in a very real event known as ----> The Renaissance.
We see the product of their imaginations & spirit, art & architecture, everywhere we look. Look to our most important gov't buildings, philosophies of law & civic ideals, the trading corporations & capitalism (you so adore) to that beloved pastime of football we find so entrenched down in texas, almost a religion unto itself, teamwork, strength & honor!
