The eighty year cycle is what I have come to understand from the book The Fourth Turning. The 13 year is my own little analysis. If you can call it that. Now something a little more insightful that may be playing out. My belief is we are at an internal crossroads again. This time just like the Civil War it will revolve around States Rights. Except instead of being determined on the battlefield it will play itself out in the Courts. So here is the similarity to 1848-1860. Presidential election of 1848- There will be no rejection of slavery and it is stay the course. Seeds of the Republican party are planted. The Kansas-Nebraska act results in the election of Republican Senators for the first time in 1854. 1856- Charles Sumner is cained in the well of the senate and puts the Republican party politics of abolition in the forefront of American politics. 1860- President Abraham Lincoln is elected. And the states go to blows. Now here is my humble take. 2008- Election of BHO- Perhaps the highwater mark of Progressive Liberal policies. High Taxes and Slavery of welfare/warfare are unsustainable. The seeds of the Tea Party are planted. 2014- I don't know if the Tea Party will sweep the elections, but Tea Party candidates are definitely causing a stir in the political establishment. 2016- Anyones guess, but could we have a Constitutional Convention convened by the States requiring the Federal Government to have a balanced budget and setting term limits on politicans. Thus resulting in a Constitutional crisis that is resolved by the Supreme Court. Or a terriorist/foriegn attack that causes the Federal Government to crack down on the citizens and we surrender our individual liberties? Again who knows. 2020- New president is elected. Maybe what I am saying for 2016 is delayed until 2020 and this begins the end of the cycle. Who knows. Maybe I am just reading to much into the tea leaves. However, it sure feels like something is approaching. What it is remains to be seen. Just a thought.
