CALIFORNIA PERMITS GOOGLE'S SELF-DRIVING CAR ON PUBLIC ROADS

Efforts to usher in the age of the driverless car recently took another step, as California's Department of
Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued permits to conduct self-driving trials on public roads to Google, Audi and
Mercedes-Benz.

Among those rules outlined are the requirement for self-driving operators to undergo a specialized training
course, notify the DMV in the event of an accident or need to take over control of the vehicle for any reason,
and maintain several million dollars in liability insurance for each vehicle.
