SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1997--Because of the growing success of its Middle Eastern region, Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. announces the promotion of executives in its Middle Eastern and air cargo divisions.

Eight years ago, Saber joined Expeditors to create its Middle Eastern region. Under his leadership, the territory has grown to 11 offices and six international service centers stretching from Athens to Calcutta. Four years ago, Saber accepted the additional responsibilty for the Company's global air cargo product, during which time its gross revenues of global air cargo operations increased well in excess of 100 percent.

Roger Idiart, formerly Director -- Gateways in the Company's San Francisco office, will move to the Seattle headquarters to assume Saber's worldwide air cargo management duties. Idiart's new title is Vice President -- Global Air Cargo. Since joining the Company two years ago, he has played a major role in managing the daily operations its air cargo services. Idiart's career in air cargo spans more than 22 years.

Expeditors' President and Chief Operating Officer Kevin M. Walsh made the announcement. ''With Rommel's move to Beirut, I'm sure we will see a rapid growth in our business in that part of the world, especially with him based in the center of his region. Although we will miss his daily presence in Seattle, anywhere we send Rommel, Expeditors would benefit,'' said Walsh. ''This has been a very smooth transition. Roger was hand-picked by Rommel for the Gateways position; they have worked these past three months to transfer Rommel's responsibilities to Roger and that's helped a lot. We are very confident in Roger and in his abilities to move Expeditors' global air cargo program further ahead.''
